Description
How would you disciple Timothy? Timothy had grown up in a South Asian culture that was proficient in reproducing the forms but was deficient in dispensing the meaning. He knew the appropriate Christian answers and ethics, but the life that he lived was not very different from his Hindu and Buddhist neighbors. Each neighbor had a system of beliefs to which they consented, a standard of morality that regulated their choices, and a set of rituals that they attempted to maintain. Was Timothy merely a religious man like his neighbors, only having chosen a different set of beliefs, ethics, and rituals? Possibly, if he was merely a religious man who preferred Christianity to the other options around him. However, if he indeed was a new creation in Christ, what did he need in order to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18)? Did he need a better understanding of doctrine? Did he need a stronger motivation for service? Did he need to be better equipped? He needed to understand that Christ is His life, and how that Life is expressed in worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry, and evangelism. Foundations in Christ is a discipleship grid that establishes seven key foundations in a new believer's life. The first two foundations center on the inward aspect of the Christian life as the source, "the root," from which the remaining five foundations are expressed as the "fruit." These twenty-one lessons introduce a new believer to essential first-truths in Christ.
